This book written in Harathi by Shri H. B. Jagatap is indeed a welcome addition to the growing literature on rural change. The title of the book, however, connotes a much wider theme than what it deals with. It does not so much deal with the progress of agricultural development in the region as with the changes in the farm business of a selected number of farmers in three villages in the Wai taluka, located about fifty miles south of Poona.- Collection and Use of Farm Management Data in Great Britain

Though interest in farm costing in Great Britain dates back to a little before the first world war, the British Government started taking active interest in this subject only in the 1920's when the first 'Advisory Economists' were appointed to 15 provincial advisory centres located either at agricultural colleges or at agricultural departments of universities. Very little was achieved initially on the national level because of lack of co-operation between different advisory centres and the absence of an agreement among them on methods of cost accounting and research.- Changes in Land Utilization and in Cropping Pattern in an Irrigated Village over the Two Decades Ending in 1960

An attempt is made in this paper to study the changes in land utilization and in cropping pattern over the two decades ending in 1960 on the basis of the data available from two .inquiries conducted in a village in the Nasik District. This village (Kasabe Sukene) was among the sample of villages selected for the study of "Economic Effects of Irrigation" undertaken during 1939-40. For the purposes of this study a sample of 25 farmers was selected from this village for conducting a farm business survey. These very farmers or their descendants were traced during 1960-61 when a study of their farm business was again undertaken. The data for the present paper are drawn from these two inquiries.- A Study of the Changes in the Baluta-Payments over the last Two Decades in an Irrigated Village in the Nasik District

Village artisans form the bulk of the non-agricultural population in the village economy. These artisans are traditionally associated with such functions which serve the needs-of the agricultural population and for which the payment is a payment in kind at the time of the annual harvest. This system is known as "balutedari" in which certain castes are associated with the practice of a particular occupation.- A Note on the Cost of Production of Milk in Poona
